In the course of my healthcare practice, I am often asked to draft or review employment agreements, on behalf of employers and employees. Understanding the agreement is important, even for employees who think there is not much room to negotiate terms. Employees should at least be aware of and understand key provisions in the agreement.
Most agreements set out the employee’s duties, term of employment, salary, start date, termination, and benefits of the job. In healthcare, many employment agreements will have terms of confidentiality, non-compete, exclusivity, etc. Most agreements include key provisions, but each agreement is different. An agreement may be tailored to meet a business or provider’s specific needs. When contemplating an employment agreement, it is important to understand what you are agreeing to. We would be happy to help. And, for residents contemplating new jobs, we offer an employment agreement review at a flat rate.
